Little Free Library Opens at the Congregational Church on Mercer Island!
The Congregational Church on Mercer Island joins in the mission of Free Little Libraries to promote literacy and build community.
This Mercer Island story begins in the mind of a Librarian with a dream, to bring a Little Library to the neighborhood surrounding the Congregational Church on Mercer Island (CCMI). Suzanne Sanderson, former CCMI Moderator and the current Librarian at Plymouth Congregational Church in Seattle, thought our community would be enriched by the mission and values within the Free Little Library movement, namely to promote literacy and build community.
On Sunday, June 5th the Congregational Church on Mercer Island had a BBQ Grand Opening and ribbon cutting. Many church members and Mercer Island residents joined us to celebrate the opening of this delightful new resident on Island Crest Way. CCMI's colorful library was fully designed, built and installed by the family of Allan & Barbara Rumpf with original artwork by Mary Rumpf.
The Free Little Library project, which began in Wisconsin and has grown to include 40,000 libraries across 70 countries across the world now has a stronger foothold on Mercer Island. We encourage you to stop by, take a book, leave a book and connect with your neighbors. Click HERE to find this and other Free Little Libraries in your neighborhood.
