Islander Middle School Evacuated After Bomb Threat

Students and staff were evacuated to the Mercer Island Community and Events Center around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - Islander Middle School was evacuated Wednesday morning after a bomb threat against the school was found written in a note, according to Mercer Island police. The school reported the threat to police around 11 a.m., and students and staff were evacuated to the Mercer Island Community and Events Center.

Police searched the school, but did not find any explosive devices. Adjacent Lakeridge Elementary was placed on modified lockdown during the evacuation of Islander Middle School, police said.

No suspects have been linked to the note, but police are trying to track down the person who made the threat.

In mid-December, Mercer Island High School was the target of a bomb threat. A threat written on a note was found around dismissal time and the school grounds were cleared and all after-school activities were canceled out of caution. Police did identify two students who might have been associated with that threat.
