Loss to W. Seattle ends MIHS girls basketball season

MI girls drop loser-out SeaKing district game to W. Seattle

The Islander girls lost to a dominant W. Seattle Wildcat team (18-5 overall) in the first round of the SeaKing district tournament, bringing their season to an end. The Mercer Island girls kept the game within three at the end of the first quarter. W. Seattle junior, Grace Sarver had a big second quarter, putting up 10 points. The Islanders sending her to the line three times. At the half, Islanders were down 22-31, but had a strong third quarter outscoring the Wildcats 16-12 with four Islanders contributing. The fourth quarter was dominated by the Wildcats, W. Seattle capitalized on possessions and put up 24 points amongst six players. The Islanders adding 17 in comparison, 10 from Annabelle Gersch and seven from Grace Shaddle. The loss was the last game for team's lone senior, Claire Mansfield. Mercer Island finishes with an overall record of 7-13. W. Seattle will advance to play #6 seed Seattle Prep (16-3 overall), February 13th.
