Luther Burbank Beach Closed Due To High Bacteria

Luther Burbank is one of three beaches in King County closed right now due to potentially harmful water.

MERCER ISLAND, WA — King County closed the beach at Luther Burbank Park on Wednesday after water tests showed high E. coli levels.

A water test from Sept. 9 showed about 2,620 bacteria units per 100 milliliters of water. The safe standard is between 200 and 1,000 units per 100 milliliters. Luther Burbank will remain closed until the next water test, which will likely happen early next week.

Luther Burbank is the third beach closed in the county right now. Newcastle Beach in Bellevue is closed due to high bacteria, and the Magnuson Park dog park beach in Seattle is closed due to potential blue-green algae contamination, according to King County.
