Mercer Island Man Charged In Crash That Killed Issaquah Man

Alexander Chung, 20, was driving the wrong way on March 11 when he killed an Issaquah man on an I-90 on-ramp, according to police.

SEATTLE, WA - A Mercer Island man arrested after a deadly wrong-way crash along an I-90 on-ramp has been charged with vehicular homicide. Alexander Chung, 20, a Seattle University student, allegedly got drunk on Mike's Hard Lemonade before getting in his car the morning of the crash, according to court records.

The crash happened just after 3 a.m. on March 11 on a ramp connecting southbound I-5 to eastbound I-90. Mohamed S. Alhethail was driving up the ramp toward I-90 when Chung allegedly hit him head on. Alhethail, 25, of Issaquah, died at the scene.

At the scene, a police officer performed a horizontal gaze nystagmus test, and the officer noted that Chung showed signs of intoxication, according to court documents. Chung told the officer he was driving from Factoria.

Chung was arrested after being treated at Harborview Medical Center for cuts and bruises. After his arrest, he told an officer he was coming from a Seattle University dorm before the crash.

Chung was released from jail last week on a $101,000 bond.
