Mercer Island Police Department Says Farewell To Longtime Officer

MERCER ISLAND, WA—The Mercer Island Police Department recently thanked one of their own for his service and dedication to the community as he embarks on a new chapter in life with his family.

Sgt. Ryan Parr spent nearly 17 years of dedicated service to the Mercer Island Police Department. According to the police department, he was hired in Jan. 2004 where he came to the department with an extensive background in the hospitality industry.

In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant, where he served as a patrol supervisor and as a detective sergeant.

During Parr's career, he served as a marine patrol officer, a field training officer, the leader of our bike team, a leader of the special operations unit, and a firearms instructor.

He was also selected by his peers as the “Officer of the Year” as well as the “Supervisor of the Year” several times.

"Ryan was a great mentor to many officers here in the Mercer Island Police Department. He always greeted the citizens of this city with a smile and displayed the highest level of professionalism," the police department said on its official Facebook page.

Chief Ed Holmes said that Parr was also well liked, well supported, and will be greatly missed.

According to the police department, Parr is an avid outdoors-man as he spends much of his off time playing with his two dogs, fishing, camping, and hiking. He and his family recently moved to Idaho to begin the next chapter in their lives.
