Mercer Island's Jordan Morris Will Participate in U-20 Camp for US Team

The Mercer Island High School senior joined the Seattle Sounders Youth Academy last fall.

Mercer Island soccer star Jordan Morris has been called up to join the U-20 US men's soccer training camp

Morris, a midfielder who left his high-school team to join the Seattle Sounders Youth Academy last September, is one of only three academy-level players joining the camp.

The U-20 World Cup will be held in Turkey from June 21 to July 13.

Here is some more info on Morris from the SB Nation blog "Sounder at Heart":

Morris has been one of the top players on the Sounders U17/18 team, having scored 22 goals in 22 matches. This past weekend, he registered an assist but did not play in the second game, presumably after learning he had been called into the training camp. He has also made several appearances with the Sounders Reserves.

"Many of these players we have been following all along," U20 head coach Tab Ramos said. "We have somewhere between 75 and 90 on our depth chart, and we call around, speak with teams and keep track of how they are doing. In Jordan's case, [Seattle Sounders head coach] Sigi Schmid thinks very highly of him, and we value his opinion and look at Jordan's track record. When he's scoring one or two goals in every Academy game, that is something you seriously have to look at."
