Mercer Island School Breaks A Gymnasium Record
The students at Islander Middle School have Mercer Island voters to thank.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - The local school district is reporting that a Mercer Island middle school has broken a record: for the first time, all of the students were able to fit together in the school gymnasium.
Islander Middle School held an assembly on Tuesday, and all 1,100 students were able to attend. The school district thanked Mercer Island voters for their help in making it happen. In 2014, voters passed two local bond measures.
One was a $98 million measure to address overcrowding at Islander Middle School and Mercer Island High School, and build a new elementary school. In addition to the gym improvements at Islander, the district added 14 classrooms, a new cafeteria, music rooms, and administrative space.
