Mercer Island Teen Found Pinned Under Car In Ravine
The 16-year-old girl was found down a steep embankment in a ravine early Sunday morning.
MERCER ISLAND, WA - A 16-year-old girl was found pinned under a car down a steep embankment along East Mercer Way early Sunday morning. Miraculously, she came away from the accident with only minor injuries.
Mercer Island police and fire crews responded to the incident along the 6400 block of East Mercer Way at the edge of Pioneer Park near 1 a.m. At the scene, they discovered a car about 15 feet off the road down an embankment - the 16-year-old pinned under it.
After about 2 hours, firefighters were able to stabilize the car and pulled the teen out. She had minor injuries, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The driver of the car, another 16-year-old, was arrested for DUI.

How did the teen get underneath the car? According to police, the two teens were backing out of a driveway when the car started to go down the embankment. One of the teens got out to check out the situation - and that's when the car rolled back and knocked her down.
Expect possible delays Sunday morning because police were still working on removing the car.
