MERCER ISLAND, WA - 2019 is going to be a big year for Mercer Island politics. Five of the seven seats are up for election, which means there's the chance for huge turnover.

To help prepare potential candidates, Mercer Island city officials will host a workshop in April to answer questions about what it takes to be a Council member - things like time commitments and residency requirements.

  • Dave Wisenteiner, Position No. 1
  • Mayor Wendy Weiker, Position No. 3
  • Lisa Anderl, Position No. 4
  • Bruce Bassett, Position No. 5
  • Debbie Bertlin, Position No. 7

(Anderl was appointed in December to fill the seat vacated by Tom Acker. Whoever is elected to the seat will only serve until 2021, the remainder of Acker's term.)

Only two people have registered campaigns with the state Public Disclosure Commission so far: Weiker, and Craig Reynolds, who is running for Wisenteiner's District 1 seat. King County's candidate filing week begins on May 13.

The candidate workshop is April 24, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., at the Mercer Island Community Center.
