Project To Add Bike Lanes, Sidewalks On Local Road

The project is being partly funded by a $500,000 state grant.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - The city has begun making improvements to SE 40th Street from Island Crest Way to Gallagher Hill Road. The project includes constructing concrete curbs, sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the road. The work is expected to be complete by October.

The work will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Expect some minor delays and limited access to driveways during these times.

The project addresses one of the two "missing links" on a continuous North-South Island bicycle route, according to a statement from the city. The project is part of the city's six-year Transportation Improvement Plan and is being partially funded by a $500,000 grant from the state.
