Proposition 1

I was really considering voting for the proposition, but then ....

Proposition 1: what a great idea!

No one deserves to spend more of our money than the hard working people on the Mercer Island City Council. No one! And that goes especially for people like you and me. Really, who do we think we are anyway?

I was so excited when I received my four page flyer from the city that I didn't even stop to think about how much of our money they wisely spent to print and mail this thing out. For a moment I will confess that I did wonder why there wasn't a table included in the flyer that listed the salaries of all the council members and every city worker, but then I realized that that information is not relevant so why would it be listed. See, this isn't a spending problem; it's a revenue problem. What's relevant is how much is in your wallet.

Well, I was ready to check off YES YES YES on my ballot ... and then I saw that the flyer had been printed with SOY INK. What monsters! Well City Council members, you can forget about my support and I hope others will take note and vote NO as well.

I suggest that the council members use their free time to consider just what other areas of our lives they would like to usurp and manage. Maybe with a few more quality ideas like littering the island with subsidized bikes (I mean, who on Mercer Island could possibly afford a bike if they wanted one?) or making sure we use the right (is is still PC to say "right" these days? I can't tell any longer.) sort of shopping bag, in the future you can better justify reaching further into our pockets.

And again, stop with the soy ink!
