Cross Snoqualmie Pass Before Wednesday Night, Officials Advise

Storms roll in Wednesday night that will bring snow to mountain passes through the weekend, making Thanksgiving travel potentially worse.

MERCER ISLAND, WA - If you need to get across Snoqualmie Pass before Thanksgiving, you should do it soon - before Wednesday, if possible - before a series of storms plow through the region on Wednesday, dumping snow in the mountains.

Snow levels will drop to around 3,000 feet Tuesday night - Snoqualmie Pass is just above that - and will only get lower as the week continues. Friday night into Saturday, snow levels will fall as low as 2,000 feet. The National Weather Service is predicting between 2 to 7 inches of snow to fall in the passes through Thanksgiving. The NWS recommends that Tuesday is the best day to travel over Snoqualmie.

"Those crossing the Cascades are encouraged to allow extra time and prepare themselves and their vehicle properly for these conditions," the NWS said in a special weather statement.
