Victims In Mercer Island Murder-Suicide Identified

The two 47-year-old victims were found Saturday morning in a car at Luther Burbank Park.

MERCER ISLAND, WA — The two adults who died in an apparent murder-suicide Saturday morning have been identified by the King County Medical Examiner.

Andrew Wright, 47, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Heidi Hopen-Wright, 47, also died of a gunshot wound, but her manner of death was ruled homicide.

Bellevue and Mercer Island Police responded to Luther Burbank Park at around 11:15 a.m. Saturday on a report of gunfire. Officers found the Wrights in a car there. They were taken to Harborview Medical Center, where they died.

Police did find a gun at the scene, and confirmed that no one else was involved in the shooting.

This is the first homicide by gun on Mercer Island in at least a decade, according to Mercer Island police.
