MERCER ISLAND, WA — For the first time in a long time, the I-90 floating bridge between Seattle and Mercer Island will not close during the Seafair Blue Angels shows and practices. That's because the Angels' flight path with be different this year and won't pass over the bridge.

But that doesn't mean drivers (and bicyclists and pedestrians) will be totally unrestricted during Seafair weekend.

According to WSDOT, Washington State Patrol will be conducting speed and distracted driving patrols along the I-90 bridge during Seafair. WSDOT is also reminding drivers that it's illegal to park on the bridge, even if you want to stop and watch the big planes.

WSDOT is also warning bicyclists and pedestrians crossing the bridge not to stop during the airshows.

"The path is a heavily used route for commuters and should be viewed similarly to a roadway," WSDOT says.
