21 Arrested In Puyallup Traffic Safety Emphasis Operation

Extra officers were on the streets Saturday night, and arrested 10 for DUI driving, and 11 other for traffic violations

PUYALLUP, WA — An attempt to tamp down on unsafe driving in the Puyallup area ended with 21 people behind bars Sunday morning.

According to the Puyallup Police Department, their officers joined Pierce County Sheriff's Department deputies and Washington State Patrol troopers in an overnight traffic safety emphasis patrol — putting extra law enforcement officers on the streets from 6 p.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Sunday. During that time, they ended up arresting 21 drivers.

  • 10 arrested for DUI.
    • Of those three were not drunk, but impaired by drugs.
    • One had a blood alcohol content of 0.17%, more than twice the legal limit.
  • 11 arrested for non-DUI traffic violations.
    • One was caught driving 70 mph on S Meridian Street, double the 35 mph speed limit.
  • 33 traffic infractions issued.
  • 132 drivers given verbal warnings for traffic violations.

Puyallup police say the arrests are a reminder to everyone: drive sober, or get a ride, but don't get behind the wheel after drinking.
