Foothills Trail Project Will Close McMillin-To-Orting Section
The Foothills Trail realignment and safety improvement project will disrupt trail traffic from July 8 through July 26.

ORTING, WA — A project to realign the Foothills Trail from trailheads at McMillin and Orting will see a 2.8-mile section of the trail closed from July 8 through July 26. The project will ultimately improve safety for both vehicle traffic and trail users, according to Pierce County planning officials.
Considered the Foothills Trail's original "Model Mile" for its scenic pass through the city of Orting, the McMillin to Orting trail project will increase line-of-sight visibility for all users and reduce trail users' speeds entering the intersection of 149th Street Court East, officials said in a closure notice posted online.
Trail traffic will be disrupted from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday during the realignment project, which will see crews remove roughly 350 feet of asphalt, grass and shrubs, was well as excavate the trail for its new alignment.
