Heatwave Damages Shaw Road Bridge

The damages have since been repaired, but the city is asking residents to keep an eye out for any other heat-related damage.

PUYALLUP, WA — The City of Puyallup is asking the public to keep an eye out for any street damages caused by the recent heat wave.

The weekend heat wave brought temperatures into the triple digits for much of Puget Sound, and Puyallup was no exception. Some places saw their first 100 degree weather ever, and the state reached an all-time record high of 118°.

Unfortunately, that heat can wreak havoc on places that aren't prepared for it, and ended up buckling at least one section of sidewalk in Tacoma, and causing some minor damage to the Shaw Road Bridge in Puyallup.

The Shaw Road damages were first reported Tuesday morning, and have since been cleaned up by Puyallup Public Works, but the city remains concerned there may be other, unreported heat-related street damage.

Anyone who has seen any potential street damages is encouraged to report it as quickly as possible by contacting the Public Works Streets Division.

As for the weather: the heat dome is gone, but it's still going to be above-average for the foreseeable future.
