Puyallup Couple Wins Lighting Makeover From PSE

LED lights can save you money and help conserve energy. Take advantage of a special LED offer now, thanks to Puget Sound Energy.

When Puyallup resident Rosalia Watson was told she won a complete home lighting makeover from PSE while on a shopping trip to McLendon Hardware, she thought she was getting 'punked.'

They were suprised at the hardware store by former broadcaster Marty Riemer and won the $750 lighting makeover--about 40 bulbs--on Armed Forces Day.

She and her husband, an Air Force Captain at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, have been working on updating their home to more 'green' standards, but had been held back from purchasing LED lights because they can be expensive.

"We'd been working on it, one lightbulb at a time," said Watson.

LED bulbs are a gigantic improvement over incandescent bulbs and better than compact fluorescents, according to PSE lighting expert Joel Smith. Install one and you may have the same bulb for a lifetime.

"You can see big savings on your lighting bill through the course of the year, when you install LED bulbs," said Smith. "For example, if someone pays $18 for an LED and uses the light three hours a day, it’ll pay for itself in three years. Then, it should last another 20 years after that."

Right now, LED bulbs are sharply discounted at local hardware stores thanks to a deal from PSE. You can purchase indoor and outdoor LED lights for anywhere from $5 to $10 each. See the list of participating businesses.

PSE is also selling LED lights for $2 each through Shop PSE.
