Puyallup School District Extends Free Meals To Coming School Year

Families who previously qualified for free or reduced meals will need to reapply when the 2021-22 school year begins.

PUYALLUP, WA — The Puyallup School District will be offering free meals for the upcoming school year.

According to the district, all Puyallup schools will be offering free breakfast and lunch for the 2021-22 school year. Families who previously qualified for free or reduced price meal benefits should be given a notification asking them to reapply for free meals when school begins in fall. Parents who believe their families may qualify for reduced pricing are also invited to apply when school begins.

The district says the free meal funding has been provided by a nationwide USDA waiver, which will expire at the end of the 2021-22 school year — meaning the free meals are unlikely to continue the next year unless another source of funding can be procured.

The district intends to have students return to the classroom for full-time in-person instruction this fall — though there will likely be some lingering COVID-19 restrictions like masking or social distancing requirements. The latest reopening news can be found on the school's website.
