Restrooms Return To Pierce County Parks

Park toilets had been closed because of the large amount of work it would take to keep them sanitized and safe.

PUYALLUP, WA — Restrooms are about to return to parks across Pierce County. Though parks have long been reopened across the county, restrooms remained closed over concerns that toilets could become breeding grounds for the coronavirus.

Now, Pierce County has announced that they will begin opening select outdoor restrooms at parks starting on Friday. Which parks while have their restrooms reopened will be determined based on resources: each of the reopened toilets will have to be cleaned daily and monitored.

Meanwhile, other restrictions at parks remain in place. The county says residents still should only travel to parks near their homes, avoid staying for an extended period, and practice social distancing. Recreation centers, picnic shelters and athletic complexes remain closed.

The county also warns that overcrowded parks could still be closed down in the future, so try to visit quieter parks or come during off-hours.
