PUYALLUP, WA - Celebrate local art next week during the city's reception for Puget Sound Sumi Artists, whose Sumi-e style Japanese ink paintings currently adorn the fifth floor of Puyallup City Hall. The free art exhibition will showcase more than 30 works produced by various artists in the PSSA organization.

The reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at 333 S. Meridian, on the fifth floor. The exhibition will feature a variety of Sumi-e style works, though PSSA members — currently numbered at more than 70 study people — study more than traditional Asian ink painting (Sumi-e), such as calligraphy (Shodo) and flower arrangement (Ikebana).

According to the city, PSSA members participate in exhibitions around the Puget Sound and Pacific Northwest throughout the year. Some even hit the road for national and international exhibits, all in the interest of promoting sumi art in the Evergreen State.
