City Signs New Lease At The Old Redmond Schoolhouse
The city has signed an agreement to help expand community programs at the schoolhouse beginning in 2021.
REDMOND, WA — A new lease agreement with the Lake Washington School District will give Redmond access to thousands of square feet in the Old Redmond Schoolhouse in 2021, the city announced Monday. Officials said the lease includes a gymnasium, clay studio and two "flexible spaces." Another space will be leased out to the Remond Historical Society.
The schoolhouse served as Redmond's community center from 2000 - 2017 before its lease expired in 2018. The city signed a separate agreement to lease a campus from the Lake Washington Institute of Technology in 2017 — now called the Redmond Community Center at Marymoor Village — but officials said limited space and no gym hampered its ability to migrate over all its programs.
The closure of the Redmond Senior Center in 2019 added to the need for space, with no existing facilities large enough to host events, performances and indoor sports, officials said. The new agreement will help meet that need.
