Delivery Delay Moves Renovated Redmond Pool Opening To January
The project, which is being funded through a $1 million state grant and by pledges from Wave Acquatrics, was slated to be done this month.
REDMOND, WA – Although renovations to the Redmond Pool were scheduled to be completed this month, a delay in the delivery of materials needed to complete the project will keep the city from reopening the pool until January, the city announced Monday.
Redmond Pool, which closed for renovations in June, serves 100,000 visitors each year. The two-phase improvement plan was approved by the city council as part of its 2019-20 budget and has been largely funded by Redmond’s Capital Improvement plan along with a $1 million grant from the state. Wave Aquatics also pledged to contribute $100,000 to the project while also covering utility costs, which have totaled $78,000, city officials said.
Wave Aquatics has overseen operations of the pool under a contract with the city since 2010 when ownership of the facility was transferred to the city from King County. The city is continuing to work with Wave Aquatics on a firm reopening date and anticipates that to be finalized in the coming weeks, city officials said.

“The city and Wave Aquatics have a shared vision to maintain a local pool that can be enjoyed by the entire Redmond community,” Mayor Angela Birney said in a news release. “Together, we look forward to reopening this valued space.”
Phase 2 of the project includes the construction of a new pool deck, upgrades to the lobby and locker rooms, updates to fixtures and improvements that are needed under the Americans With Disabilities Act, city officials said. The city also announced that the project has also included the installation of new mechanical and electrical systems, air handling units, boiler systems as well as roof and window work which all took place during the first phase of the project.
