Doreen Marchione Dies, Was Redmond Mayor, Deputy Kirkland Mayor
Marchione, 80, mother of Redmond Mayor John Marchione, was also the longtime CEO of Hopelink.

REDMOND, WA — Doreen Marchione, a major figure in Puget Sound's political and social service scene died over the weekend, according to her family.
Marchione, 80, served as the mayor of Redmond between 1984 and 1991 — and her son, John, has been mayor of Redmond since first being elected in 2007. Doreen Marchione also served as a Kirkland Councilwoman and deputy mayor, and for 15 years as CEO of the anti-poverty nonprofit Hopelink.
"Doreen was a true force of nature in our region," former state legislator Joan McBride said in a statement. "Befriending and mentoring countless women on the Eastside, Doreen set the example of collegiality and dignity that exemplifies the best in an elected official. May her legacy of commitment to the community, zeal for justice, and dedication to the precepts of good government live on."

Marchione died on Saturday, according to her obituary. There will be a funeral mass on Aug. 2 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Kirkland. More information is available from Flintoft's Funeral Home.
