REDMOND, WA — Five high school seniors from the Lake Washington School District will receive $2,500 National Merit scholarships, coming out on top after a highly competitive process. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the latest winners Wednesday, with five Redmond High School seniors selected among 52 students across Washington.
Here are the winners:
- Isabelle Bodkhe
- Oscar Lo
- Arnav Narula
- Amelie E. Sharples
- Rohan M. Krishnan
According to the scholarship program, 2,500 high school seniors across the nation won the scholarship, winning out over 16,000 finalists. The scholarships are awarded by a committee that includes college admissions officers and high school counselors. Picking the winners includes considering academic records — including grades, subject difficulty and two standardized test scores — and each student's school and community leadership skills. Finalists are also required to write an essay and secure a recommendation from a high school leader.
