Redmond Cyclists: Join The Bike Everywhere Challenge This Month

REDMOND, WA — Cyclists in Redmond and across Washington state are invited to take part in some friendly competition this month, with both bragging rights and prizes up for grabs.

This year's Bike Everywhere Challenge runs through May 31 and invites friends, families and colleagues to form teams and go for the gold. Each team can include up to 10 people, and the goal is to earn the most points before the month is over. Rides can take place any time through May 31.

Riders can earn points by logging miles every day, and bonus points for signing up or "encouraging" other participants. Using the free online tracker, riders can input each day's activities, which count toward the team total. The signup screen will ask if a particular rider encouraged them to join, which adds the bonus referral points.

Ride Everywhere points:

• Riding
  • 1 mile = 1 point
  • 1 day = 10 points
• Encouraging
  • 1 existing rider = 50 points
  • 1 new rider = 100 points

"The challenge is not just about how can ride the most miles, but about supporting a team of riders to ride more frequently and to encourage others to do the same," organizers wrote. "Riding daily for errands and mental health net you more points than a single 20-mile ride on the weekend."
