Lake Washington School District Seeks Community Feedback

The state's second-largest school district is looking to hear ideas as it plots a course ahead to manage growth.

REDMOND, WA — The Lake Washington School District is accepting community feedback for its facility advisory committee through Oct. 30 as it considers recommendations to improve facilities amid growing enrollment.

The district, serving Kirkland, Redmond and Sammamish students, has grown from the sixth-largest in Washington to the state's second-largest in just a few years. With more than 31,000 students, Lake Washington is behind only Seattle Public Schools in size.

According to the district, enrollment has grown by an average of 667 students for more than a decade, which is enough students to fill a large elementary school every year. In 2014, the district assembled a 63-member task force to develop a long-term strategy, but such leaps in enrollment have made it necessary to update its plans for the next decade to meet student needs.
