Lake Washington Schools To Welcome Back More Students In March

On Monday, the school district announced plans to resume more in-person learning, up to the fifth grade, in late March.

REDMOND, WA — Washington's second-largest school district is moving forward with plans to expand in-person learning through fifth grade in late March, the Lake Washington School District announced Monday. Lake Washington welcomed some of its youngest learners back to the classroom last Thursday.

"We appreciate the partnership with all the stakeholders to successfully transition our Kindergarten and First grade students to their learning models," said Dr. Jon Holmen, the district's superintendent. "We are grateful to be able to provide both in-person and remote learning services for our students."

Under Lake Washington's hybrid model, classroom instruction is staggered by A and B groups on different days, and at-home learning continues three days per week. The district will use the same plan for second through fifth graders, beginning March 18 and 19 for second and third grade, and March 29 and 30 for fourth and fifth grade.

According to the district, about half of Lake Washington's families indicated in a survey that they would remain fully-remote. For families who choose to resume some in-person instruction, each school has implemented new health and safety protocols.
