Northeast 40th Street Closure Begins Friday

A 17-day road closure in the Overlake neighborhood will allow crews to make significant progress on a trail improvement project.

REDMOND, WA — Beginning Friday, Northeast 40th Street will be fully closed in Redmond's Overlake neighborhood, allowing city crews to make progress on 900 feet of trail improvements on the SR 520 trail. The closure will be in place around the clock for 17 days.

From the city:

"The full closure of NE 40th Street will dramatially reduce the overall time needed for construction of the SR 520 Trail Grade Separation project. A traffic, pedestrian, and bicycle detour with all required signage and message boards will be in place."

The project will include 900-feet of improvements along the SR 520 Trail, and the creation of a colorful new tunnel for cyclists and pedestrians running beneath NE 40th Street. Other changes include new sidewalks, lighting and traffic signals.

City officials say the state-funded project will help increase safety for all, while reducing delays for vehicles, due to fewer crossings.
