Redmond Teacher Accused Of Inappropriate Chats With Minor
Prosecutors have filed four charges against a teacher, alleging he had explicit online chats with a detective posing as a 13-year-old girl.
REDMOND, WA — A Redmond teacher living in Kirkland faces four charges of "communication with a minor for immoral purposes," after prosecutors alleged he had sexually explicit online chats with a Seattle police detective who was posing as a 13-year-old girl from Bellevue.
In court filings, the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office identified Nathan Carey-Moreno Williams, 29, as the defendant. According to a probable cause document, a detective working for the Seattle Police Department's Internet Crimes Against Children task force set up an OkCupid account in March, creating an underage persona and liking several profiles.
The undercover detective said they "matched" with Williams, who sent a message in March. A partial transcript of the chats included in court documents showed the detective saying they were 13, and Williams initially replying that they were too young and should not be on the dating app. However, in later exchanges in April, detectives said Williams had increasingly explicit chats with the detective, despite believing them to be a middle schooler in neighboring Bellevue.

The chats continued through early May, and detectives said they connected the OkCupid profile to Williams, and confirmed he was a teacher at the Brightmont Academy, a private school. Police arrested Williams on June 2. Detectives said he admitted to authoring several chat messages that violated the law.
Prosecutors filed four criminal charges on June 4, and a judge agreed to set bail at $70,000. Prosecutors said Williams posted bond and is scheduled to enter a plea at an arraignment hearing on June 17.
