Redmond Police Fatally Shoot Woman At Apartment Complex
Investigators said three officers fired shots during an encounter with a woman who had initially called 911 for help.
REDMOND, WA — The King County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 39-year-old Redmond woman who was killed Sunday night during an encounter with police. It is the first police shooting in Redmond since 2018.
A spokesperson for the Redmond Police Department said someone called 911 from an apartment building on 161st Avenue Northeast shortly before 9:30 p.m., telling dispatchers that someone was trying to kill her. According to police, once officers arrived at the courtyard of the complex, they saw a woman standing on her balcony, who said she was the person who called 911 and told officers she may have shot someone.
At some point, police said, the woman pointed a handgun at them and officers fired several shots, hitting her multiple times. It was not immediately clear what led up to the confrontation or whether the shooting happened inside or outside the woman's apartment.
