WSP: Shots Fired During Chase From Snohomish County To Redmond

Troopers say a driver shot at them while fleeing from Everett to King County. The suspect was eventually caught in Redmond Saturday morning.

REDMOND, WA — A man was arrested Saturday morning after a five-hour ordeal that included a police chase, gunfire and a manhunt through the woods. According to Washington State Patrol, the incident began with an attempted traffic stop on Interstate 5 in Snohomish County, shortly after 11:04 p.m. Friday. Troopers said the driver refused to pull over and fled southbound toward King County.

According to WSP, troopers attempted to use spike strips twice, then tried to stop the vehicle with a PIT maneuver. During the PIT attempt, WSP said the driver fired his gun at a trooper, hitting his vehicle in the windshield.

The chase continued onto Interstate 405, then headed east on State Route 520 into Redmond, before exiting onto Avondale Road. Troopers said the driver pulled over near Northeast 116th Street and shot at them as he ran into the woods.

According to WSP, residents living nearby were contacted via Reverse 911 to shelter in place while troopers searched for the man. Investigators announced he was taken into custody around 4:15 a.m. No injuries were reported.
