RENTON, WA — Candidate filing week came to an end in King County on Friday afternoon, with hundreds of residents having formally thrown their hats in the race for public offices across the region.
Dozens of city council seats are up for election across King County this year, along with plenty of mayoral contests, including in Seattle, Federal Way, Snoqualmie, Yarrow Point, Kent and Milton. The mayors of Issaquah, Auburn, Black Diamond, Duvall, Enumclaw, Hunts Point and Skykomish are running unopposed, while the mayors of Bellevue, Kirkland and Sammamish — appointed by their city councils — are seeking reelection to keep their council seats.
Six candidates filed to run for King County Executive, including incumbent Dow Constantine, who seeking a fourth term. He is expected to face a formidable challenge from state Sen. Joe Nguyen (D-White Center). Perennial Puget Sound candidate Goodspaceguy also filed for the office.
