Bake Sale Is Show Of Support For Burgarlized Downtown Business
Stop into the old Renton Book Exchange to drop purchase bake sale items on Nov. 24. Funds raised will help offset the losses associated with a recent break in.
Leave it to Renton business maven Mary Clymer to turn a lemon into lemonade.
Well, a lemon into a bake sale, but we’ll get to that in a minute…
Dacia Hanson owner of the Old Renton Book Exchange is out $300 after her store was burglarized last week.

Clymer learned of the burglary after reading a blog entry Hanson posted about the ordeal where crooks busted the lock on her door and swiped cash stached in the back room and the rest of the loose change from the register.
“They were either really lucky, or they knew where it was,” Hanson said of the hidden cash. No other items were taken from the store.

“I was fortunate. I never got broken into, but I did have stuff stolen from my store,” Clymer said of happy delusions.
The theft stayed on Clymer’s mind as she started her shift at The Local 907. It was there that she told a customer, who suggested she put on a fundraiser to help Hanson with the financial loss.
Clymer decided to host a bake sale this Saturday to help Hanson recoup the stolen cash and cost of a new door lock.
“He had this great idea, and I’m totally going to run with that,” she said.
Stealing from any small business is a violation of trust, and it's something small business owners take personally, she said.
The bake sale is a way for the community to show that it cares, she said. “We do have such a supportive network in downtown Renton.”
Hanson agrees that Renton doesn't deserve its bad wrap.
“I don’t want people to think that Renton is a dangerous place to open a business, because it’s is not,” she said.
