Renton Police Reported Fewer Violent Crimes to FBI in 2012
The map below shows the number of sworn officers in Seattle area police departments along with overall violent and property crime numbers.
Renton police reported 283 violent crimes in 2012, a decrease from the 292 incidents of violent crime reported in 2011.
The number of property crimes increased, however, from 4,223 in 2011 to 4,562 in 2012.
The numbers were released this week by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, which reported a nationwide increase of violent crimes and a decrease of property crimes after compiling crime data from 18,000 jurisdictions in 50 states.
The rate of violent crime for Washington’s cities increased by 0.1 percent (per 100,000 people), and its property crime rate increased by 2.2 percent (per 100,000 people) from 2011 to 2012.

The FBI's Uniform Crime Reports also included the number of police officers in the nation’s police departments. Renton has 1.2 sworn officers for every 1,000 residents.
