RENTON, WA — With Washington poised to reopen later this month, the city of Renton is looking to hire more lifeguards for the summer ahead. So far, officials said the Henry Moses Aquatic Center only has half the lifeguards it needs for the season, and understaffing could affect pool hours. The swim center is planning to open on June 26 and typically welcomes close to 75,000 swimmers through Labor Day. The city also has seasonal openings for lifeguards at Gene Coulon Park.

The seasonal positions pay between $14.50 and $22.50 an hour, based on experience, for up to 40 hours per week during the summer. For entry-level positions, applicants must be at least 15 years old, able to complete a swim test, and have their American Red Cross certification, or be willing to earn it.

  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Work evenings and/or weekends as assigned.
  • Comply with all COVID-19 practices and procedures in compliance with City and CDC guidelines, such as frequent cleaning and disinfecting of the facilities, wearing appropriate PPE, and other regulations as provided.
