Work Begins On New Playground At Gene Coulon Park
In early 2021, a brand new play area will open at the park, featuring upgraded play areas for kids and new exercise equipment for adults.
RENTON, WA — A construction project to replace an aging playground began this week at Renton's Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park. If all goes according to schedule, the brand new play area will open in early 2021, featuring updated equipment for children between 2 and 5 years old.
According to the city, more than 900 community members provided input for the new playground's design and layout, which includes several components for children of all abilities. Some of the survey requests, officials said, were not able to be accommodated, including a splash park.
The city said it would have been beyond the scope of the project and pointed to the nearby guarded swim beach as an opportunity for water fun. A new water feature at Sunset Neighborhood Park is also under construction. Another unfeasible request, officials said, was rubberized surfacing, due to the high water table and resulting drainage concerns.
