Issaquah Mayor Sends Letter To Governor Regading Extending Eviction Moratorium

Issaquah Mayor Mary Lou Pauly and City Council President Victoria Hunt sent this letter July 16, 2020, urging Governor Jay Inslee to significantly extend the statewide moratorium on evictions to reduce community distress, and increase resiliency to successfully overcome the COVID-19 crisis. The current moratorium is set to expire Aug. 1, 2020.

"Renters across the state are experiencing growing anxiety and distress as the end of the state moratorium on evictions approaches, and the possibility of being evicted becomes more real each day," the Issaquah letter states. "Our communities are experiencing already the devastating impact of this crisis with multiple stressful events occurring at the same time, from unemployment and food insecurity, to education disruption, community, social and health care emergency, along with housing instability."

Issaquah’s local leaders urge the use of CARES Act state funding to keep residents housed and properties out of foreclosure during these uncertain times.

"As local leaders, it is our duty to be the voice of our communities and to act with urgency and help provide some relief during these challenging times. Now, more than ever our communities need rapid action and supportive measures," the letter states.
