CenturyLink Field Begins Life As 'Lumen Field' Thursday
By the kickoff of Thursday night's Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals game, CenturyLink Field will be no more.
SEATTLE — CenturyLink Field is dead. Long live Lumen Field.
It's been a turbulent period for Seattle sports fans: in January 2019 Safeco Field was rebranded as T-Mobile stadium, adding a splash of hot pink signage to Washington's favorite diamond.
Now, CenturyLink is making a similar move.

In advance of Thursday night's Seahawks vs. Arizona Cardinals game, the Seahawks and Lumen announced that the stadium is being renamed Lumen Field — following CenturyLink's rebranding to Lumen Technologies in September.
"Through a shared vision and commitment to serving the Seattle community, we are proud to enter a new era of world-class sports and entertainment with Lumen Field," said Chuck Arnold, Seattle Seahawks President . "For nearly two decades, the stadium has made its mark as a premier Seattle venue, and a place for the community to experience thrilling victories, establish sacred traditions, and witness unforgettable moments together. We are excited to build upon that legacy and experience amazing things at Lumen Field for years to come."

The fields of King County
CenturyLink Field first opened to the public as Seahawks Stadium back in 2002. Shortly after, it entered into it's current naming rights agreement, rebranding as Qwest Field in 2004, only to become CenturyLink Field in 2011, when CenturyLink bought Qwest Communications.
In 2017, stadium owners signed a deal extending the naming rights through the 2033 season. That deal is still active, but because CenturyLink has changed their name to Lumen, the field is allowed to change as well. Following the field's renaming, the stadium's event center will also henceforth be known as the Lumen Field Event Center.
"Lumen Field is a symbol of Seattle's passionate fans, and we are proud to be associated with this iconic venue. Lumen is dedicated to delivering amazing experiences for our clients, and we are committed to the success and support of the Seattle community," said Shaun Andrews, chief marketing officer for Lumen.
As for changing the look of the field, that'll likely come sometime next year. The Seahawks say plans to replace the stadium's signs are still in the early stages, though they hope to have updated all internal and external branding before the 2021 Seahawks season.
