Emerald City Comic Con Will Return In-Person This December

One of the region's most popular seasonal events will finally return this year, for the first time since 2019.

SEATTLE — Emerald City Comic Con is plotting a course toward a triumphant return this winter, nearly 21 months after it was postponed as the COVID-19 pandemic first emerged. The annual entertainment convention has soared in popularity since it began in 2003, growing its attendance to nearly 100,000 people when it was last held in 2019.

Typically, the convention takes place in the spring, but ongoing COVID-19 mitigation measures again prevented its return earlier this year. Instead, the self-proclaimed "geekiest show in the Pacific Northwest" will take over the Washington State Convention Center from Dec. 2 - 5, organizers announced Tuesday. The ECCC team said they chose the date to help provide for the best and safest event possible.

The brief announcement did not include details about panels, guests, artists and vendors or when tickets would go on sale. That information, organizers said, will be shared in the months ahead. In previous years, celebrity guests have included Rainn Wilson, David Tennant, Jeremy Renner and Jason Momoa.
