Free Piroshky Piroshky For TSA Agents Hurt By Shutdown
The vaunted Russian pastry maker Piroshky Piroshky joins other local efforts to help government workers hurt by the federal shutdown.

SEATTLE, WA - Thursday marked the 34th day of the partial federal government shutdown, which has left thousands of federal workers in Washington without a paycheck.
But a sliver of good news came on Thursday too: the beloved local pastry maker Piroshky Piroshky will start giving out free piroshkies to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers in the Seattle area.
TSA workers can get one piroshki of their choice per day through Jan. 31 at the Southcenter Mall store - the one closest to Sea-Tac Airport - with a valid TSA ID.

“Like many, we have felt helpless regarding the government shutdown and how it affects furloughed workers,” Piroshky Piroshky owner Olga Sagan said in a press release. “We hope this small gesture will let those impacted know the community is thinking of them during this difficult time.”

- The city of Seattle will soon allow federal workers to defer paying utility and electricity bills
- The pizzeria Mioposto is offering discounts: federal workers get a percentage off equivalent to the day of the shutdown - for example, they would get 34 percent off on the 34th day of the shutdown
- Bai Tong (Tukwila) and Noi Thai (Seattle) are offering federal workers free lunch or dinner with a valid federal ID
- The Port of Seattle is collecting donations at Sea-Tac for federal workers
- Jeff Lew, a Seattle man famous for tackling the school lunch debt problem, has set up a GoFundMe to feed federal workers
