New Music Festival Comes To Seattle For Labor Day Weekend

With Bumbershoot and other festivals canceled this year, Capitol Hill Block Party organizers put together something new to take their place.

SEATTLE — Seattle Center will play host to a new music festival this year, and tickets are now on sale for "Day In Day Out" planned over Labor Day weekend. The new single-stage festival was put together by the team behind Capitol Hill Block Party, which organizers were again forced to postpone for 2021, citing uncertainty over COVID-19 restrictions and limited time to plan the annual three-day event in late July.

Day In Day Out will also help feel the void left by Bumbershoot, the long-running music festival that typically takes over Seattle Center for Labor Day. As the Seattle P-I reports, organizers called off Bumbershoot again in April and said the festival would need to be reimagined before returning in 2022.

The new two-day festival will run on a smaller scale than Bumbershoot and the Block Party, with artists sharing a stage on the lawn outside Fisher Pavilion. As the Seattle Times reports, the daily capacity for the festival will be capped at 8,000 people, with bands scheduled between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. on both days.

Some highlights in the lineup announced Wednesday include Chvrches, Kaytranada, Big Wild and Chong the Nomad. Single-day passes are priced at $80 for general admission and $120 for VIP perks. Two-day passes for both Sept. 4 and Sept. 5 cost $145 for general admission and $200 for VIP.

According to the festival's website, Fisher Pavilion will also feature an indoor and outdoor beer garden for 21+ attendees and plenty of on-site food trucks. Guests with wristbands will also be able to exit and re-enter the festival as needed.
