Puget Sound Hits 70 Degrees For 5th Day, Weekend Cooldown Coming

Only one other April on record has seen five straight days of temperatures in the 70s. Cooler days are ahead, along with the return of rain.

SEATTLE — An unseasonably early preview of summer is on track to stretch on for a bit longer before the triumphant return of rain and more spring-like temperatures forecast by the weekend.

On Monday, Seattle logged its fifth consecutive afternoon at 70 degrees or higher, a feat recorded in April just one other time, in 2016.

Tuesday and Wednesday are forecast to be virtually identical to Monday around Seattle and Tacoma, with afternoon temperatures hovering near 70 and mostly clear skies across Puget Sound. Things should start to feel a little different by Thursday, with a few more clouds in the sky and highs dipping to the mid-60s.

Initially, the National Weather Service expected a slight chance of rain Thursday night, but for now, it looks like the first chance for moisture will arrive late Friday night. That will kick off a cooler, wetter pattern forecast through the weekend, with rain likely for most on Saturday.

While the sunny weather sticks around, the National Weather Service shared some reminders that Washington's lakes and rivers remain dangerously cold, and hypothermia poses a real danger even when the air outside is warm.

With such a prolonged stretch of dry weather, first responders across the region are also asking residents to be especially mindful of fire dangers, which already kept crews busy over the weekend and into Monday. State fire resources have been authorized to assist with a 50-acre brush fire burning near Auburn.
