Seattle Gingerbread House Renting For $2,000-a-month
It's literally a 1-square-foot gingerbread house.

SEATTLE, WA - There's a truly unique - and probably delicious - rental available in Seattle for the sweet price of only $2,000 per month.
The satirical ad appeared on the Seattle Craigslist site recently offering a 1-square-foot gingerbread house for rent. The ad comes on the heels of a galling - but real - $750-a-month "prison cell" rental in the U-District that featured a room with a toilet and no walls.
"Modern! Charming! Aromatic! Stand-alone house, new construction, just under one square foot with efficient floor plan. (No wall between toilet and the rest of the space, or any other room. Also no toilet.) Low-cost lighting and heat included. Rooftop deck with potted trees, fire pit table and view of aquarium," the Craigslist ad reads.

However satirical it is, the gingerbread house hits pretty close to home. It looks strikingly like many of the new modern high-price homes being built around Seattle, and it's in the Central District - a neighborhood that's experienced extreme gentrification. The post even takes a shot at recent controversy over move-in costs: the ad asks for about $4,200 in move-in fees (more than half non-refundable).
Home prices in Seattle have increased up to 50 percent over the last decade, and the median home price here is now $625,000, according to the MLS. Meanwhile, the average rent for a one-bedroom in Seattle is about $2,000 per month, according to Rent Jungle.
