Seattle's Alki Beach Will Keep Closing Early Into September
Citing community feedback and public safety concerns, Seattle will continue closing the popular Alki Beach Park at 10 p.m.

SEATTLE — Alki Beach will close at 10 p.m. until mid-September, shuttering one of the city's most popular summer destinations 90 minutes early, city officials said Friday. Seattle Parks & Recreation put the first early closure in place over July 4 weekend. Officials said positive feedback from West Seattle neighbors and "continued concerns around illegal activity and public safety issues" in recent weeks prompted them to extend the early closing time through summer.
With pandemic restrictions eased and the weather heating up, Alki has been subject to a few high-profile incidents since May, including fights breaking out during a massive party fueled by a viral TikTok video, and a recent fight that led to four people being shot, leaving one young man dead.
Typically, Alki Beach Park is open between 4:30 a.m. and 11:30 p.m. Until Sept. 12, the park will close at 10 p.m.

Beach fires are still permitted within designated fire rings and must be extinguished by 9:30 p.m. All visitors will be asked to leave the park promptly at 10 p.m. During a prolonged stretch of dry weather, with a statewide wildfire emergency declaration and limited burn ban in place, officials ask everyone to use extra caution and follow posted fire rules.
