Southwest Airlines System-Wide Outage Impacts Sea-Tac

A system-wide issue with Southwest Airlines' software has grounded flights across the country, and causing delays at Sea-Tac.

SEATTLE — A system-wide Southwest Airlines computer outage is causing delays across the country, including at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

The exact issue was not disclosed by the airline, which released a one-sentence tweet about the issue, saying they were "working quickly to resolve" the situation. The FAA later clarified that it had ordered a temporary nationwide ground stop at the company's request while it fixed a problem with its reservation system.

Sea-Tac has acknowledged this issue, but has not clarified how severe the delays were locally.

The midday update from the FAA showed Sea-Tac averaging 15-minute delays on departures and arrivals, though the report notes that those are the general airport conditions, and are not flight-specific.

Other airports have reported problems linked to the outage, warning passengers to expect delays and to check in with their airline for further updates.
