Areas North, East Of Seattle Could See More Snow Overnight: Forecast

A National Weather Service forecast indicates cities like Shoreline, Redmond, parts of Bellevue, and Kirkland could see heavier snow.

SHORELINE, WA - The latest forecasts for the Puget Sound region show that snowfall could be heavy in specific areas north and east of the city.

A National Weather Service forecast issued Monday afternoon indicates that up to 3 inches could fall north of a line that stretches from Poulsbo east to the Greenwood neighborhood in Seattle, and continuing southeast across Lake Washington into the Medina area. Anywhere north of that line could see snow add up before precipitation ends around 9 a.m. Tuesday.

Even if snow does not fall in large quantities, local governments are warning of potentially icy conditions during the Tuesday morning commute. Temperatures will fall into the 20s throughout the region tonight, which may cause ice to form on roadways and bridges.

"City crews plowed snow from some south Bellevue streets above 500 feet in elevation Monday morning," said one alert from the city of Bellevue. "But the bigger concern is that temperatures expected to dip into the 20s overnight will create icy conditions for the Tuesday morning commute and into Wednesday. Drivers should be aware of water refreezing on city roads and take it slow, leaving plenty of distance to stop. Pedestrians are advised to wear shoes with good traction to avoid slipping on the ice."
