Jayapal Secures $20 Million For Five Seattle-Area Projects as Part of the House of Representatives’ Upcoming Transportation and Infrastructure Proposal
WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Representative Pramila Jayapal (WA-07) announced today that she has successfully secured $20 million in funding for five Seattle-area transportation and infrastructure projects as part of the INVEST in America Act, legislation that is now set to move through the House of Representatives.
“I am proud to announce that five of the key transportation and infrastructure priorities that I fought for on behalf of our Seattle region have been included in the robust INVEST in America Act,” said Congresswoman Jayapal. “This is a critical step towards bolstering infrastructure throughout our district, supporting our state’s efforts to fight climate change, and authorizing bold investments in our roads, bridges, transit systems, and waterways. I look forward to moving this legislation forward and continuing to advocate on behalf of these projects and other necessary investments throughout our community.”
The $20 million announced today reflects the maximum amount that any Congressional District secured in the legislation. The funding is split between the following five regional priorities:
$5.36 million for Sound Transit’s West Seattle and Ballard Link Extension
$4.2 million for WSDOT’s Seattle Ferry Terminal Shoreside Electrification
$2.34 million for SDOT’s East Marginal Way Corridor Improvements — Phase 1
$3.1 million for Lake Forest Park’s Culvert Replacement Project
$5 million for WSDOT’s I-5/Lake Washington Ship Canal Bridge Deck Overlay
Today’s announcement follows months of sustained advocacy by Representative Jayapal. In April, she testified in front of the powerful House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. Speaking at the committee’s hearing, she championed key infrastructure priorities for Washington’s Seventh Congressional District.
