The award, presented Wednesday at the Governor's Mansion, recognizes schools that are meeting federal standards in reading and/or math, as well as closing opportunity gaps between white students and traditionally underrepresented students.

Lake Forest Park Elementary has been honored as one of 12 Washington schools recognized nationally through Title I, Part A, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act.
Lake Forest Park was named a National Title I Distinguished School, along with Columbia Ridge Elementary in Ephrata, at a ceremony Wednesday night at the Governor’s Mansion in Olympia.

“I’m proud of all these schools,” said State Schools Superintendent Randy Dorn said. “The fact that what they’ve done is being recognized on a national scale speaks very well to how they’re doing and how Washington state is doing.”
National Title I Distinguished Schools awards each receive $10,000 to develop instructional strategies, curriculum or for teacher professional development.
The awards recognize schools that are meeting federal Adequate Yearly Progress and Annual Measurable Objectives standards in reading and/or math, as well as closing the opportunity gaps between white students and traditionally underrepresented students.
Gov. Jay Inslee praised the work coming from the schools. “These schools are doing excellent work in bridging opportunity gaps and helping students succeed,” he said. “Congratulations to each of these schools and to the teachers, school staff, parents and community members who have been such an important part of their efforts.”
